On behalf of the Fresno County Office of Education’s Instructional Technology Services Department, we would like to share with you the following information.

Invitation to Participate

You are invited to participate in the Picture the Valley Student Film Festival hosted by the Fresno County Office of Education, Instructional Technology Services Department being held April 8, 2014.

This film festival is open to students of Fresno County to create a video demonstrating their reflections and understanding gained as a result of their school studies. Having students collaborate on a video project based on learned knowledge is a great way to implement the Common Core and Next Generation standards into your classroom.

Register your students between now and March 11th (when submissions are due) in any of the following categories:
  • Public Service Announcement (PSA)
  • Personal Narrative
  • Documentary
Not sure you have the equipment to have your students create a video project? Our department has several technology backpacks available to borrow containing a laptop, camera, microphone and everything else you need to create and edit video.
We are offering a series of FREE monthly Video Learning Network (VLN)
sessions which include hands-on application and discussions centered on the power of video to enhance curriculum and to share classroom tested techniques. Whether you are new to creating video or a veteran multimedia specialist, VLN will meet your learning needs! Anyone who attends a VLN is entered into a drawing for an iPod Touch, to be chosen the night of Picture the Valley.*

Save the Date!

April 8, 2014
Clovis Veteran’s Memorial District
808 4th Street, Clovis CA 93612

*Must be present to win; one (1) entry will be earned for every VLN meeting attended.

Art for Community Transformation 2/12/2014 in AH 102

Called to Order at 2:36 pm by President Danielle

Members added emails to wordpress to follow ACT’s blog and will get all posts including minutes.

Item 1: Advisor West suggested we finish up last semester’s projects – Denise – Money and art supplies donated for Ronald McDonald House was about $80, check with them or the Children’s Hospital if they would like art supplies, if not see about donating to Spirit of Woman or secular kids group. Also, check if paperwork for scholarship was submitted on time? Lisa White was in charge. Discussed what to do with the $300 raised if not submitted. Suggestions: roll over and raise money again, offer two next spring.

Was suggested that money raised in fall be donated or to scholarsihp, in spring, use for trips or exhibit. Decided that it should be left up to each semesters members. Advisor West stated the past standing rule: Any money raised in the past can be used for charities and to make more money, but not just spent on fun or trips.

Motion made by Tiny, Seconded by Lyle: Take a trip with money we raise this semester.
Discussion: Galleries in Santa Monica, LA, Monterey, Bermont Station, Santa Monica Community college. (bus $1200, combined with other club) ($400 van, seats 10) Need to find driver for van. All in favor of the trip.
Unanimous/Approved.

Additional Discussion: Money needs to be raised for the trips, but will we still do workshops? Are we doing club rushes? Times we made money were at events outside of club rushes. (dollar tacos and tri tip) Suggestions for Club Rush: chalk on the ground, t-shirt screenprint or stencils (spray paint). Current T-shirt sizes are not big enough or small enough. We have printing supplies, but need to check the ink. Best selling cover art: dragons, fairies, tie dye. If use FCC design or ram symbol, needs to be approved. Do several designs before deciding. Print only as ordered and so they see process. Possibly have booth at Fresno Mini Maker Fair, as offering free booths for making, cost for crafting booth. April 12th. Having a casting booth, need to check liability issue. If we sell outside of club rush we need 30 days advance paperwork turned in.

Our main fundraising will by selling t-shirts on campus or whatever vendor fair decide.

Motion by Tiny: Do t-shirts on campus. Add – If we do the T-shirts on campus, do tacos too.
Discussion: We should do the next club rush in March, just to represent and gather members. Pass out flyers in classes.

Question: which rules of order are the meetings to be run under? Partially under Roberts? Advisor West suggested we hold a meeting to learn how our government is run. Consensus based. Whoever presents an idea is in charge of the idea, unless someone steps up for it.

Drop last motion by Tiny.
Motion by Tiny, second by Lyle: Move forward with the idea to make t-shirts, get FCC logo approval first.
Discussion: After approval, then we can move forward to discuss t-shirt sales on campus.
Approved – unanimous

ICC= inter club council – Workshops for scholarships, March 2nd Scholarships deadline.

Question: Would our workshops be for on campus information or money maker?
Visiting artist lectures, artist workshops, Anne Scheid how to cut mats, masks. Adv West mentioned that most faculty would be willing to do a workshop. Local artists. Bring empty cans or bottles or $5 fee. Adv West knows Marvel animator to come for workshop.

Sign up for the next club rush, when we find out when it is.

Idea: silicone plaster molds to be sold, to be painted. Past ceramic figures painted did not sell.

Discussed fieldtrips: DeYoung Gallery, SF. Contact Architecture, photography, science club, if would like to join us in a field trip. Gamble to rent a bus, 48 seats, sell the remaining seats to art students if we go on a Friday or Saturday.
Per seat: $25, 250 for ten of us, possibly covered by ICC allocation money.
San Francicso – Mothers Day weekend, eat lunch at powwow, visit Stanford. Can we sell the extra bus seats to students?

Danielle stated that we need to approve our copy/printing expenses. Penny a piece for printing BW.
Motion: Approve $50 for copy expenses for semester Approved, unanimous. Motion b Rose, second by Sam, Approved.
Danielle to print 40-50 1/4 page handout flyers now. Everyone saw and approved the handout, use colored paper if possible.

Announcements:
ClayMix Workshop Free with potluck on 2/15. Claymix is on Blackstone and Olive – Adv West giving extra credit
WestCare event: $100-300 stipend for having a booth April 6th.
Adv West offered to hold an Art Night once a month – She wants text confirmation needed, and at least 4 attendees.
March 1 deadline for Sorensen’s Art Scientifique Show.

We are formally a club again this semester!

Hi All,

We had our first meeting last week and elected, at least temporary officers.  In a couple of weeks, when our membership is built up we will finalize the officers.  Danielle Mayer is our acting president.  Since we had fairly decent attendance, we will continue to hold meetings at 2:35 on Wednesday.  We are going to try to work through formal club business by 3pm so that we can actually have time each week to work on various projects.

At least once a month, we are going to have an “Art Night.”  During Art Nights, we will meet at 6pm, or some pizza or have a potluck and work on various projects.  This semester we are going to finalize the funding for the scholarship and finish up the Valley Children’s project as some of the earliest business.  This way we can start on some new projects.

We have a standing invitation to exhibit at Fresno Idea Works and probably will do so for the March Art Hop.  We have discussed hosting   We also would like to try to get with a few other clubs in the hope of taking a trip to the Bay Area to visit museums.  We will have to do some fund raising to accomplish this.

You do not have to be an art major or even an student of Art classes to join the club.  In the past we have had members from all fields of expressive arts – from poets to musicians.  We would love to see any one who has an interest in the arts join.  Please spread the word so that we can get a good size group here!  Also we have full voting members and supporting members.  The full voting members can attend all of our regular meetings – however many people cannot attend our meeting times.  If you are interested in the club you can become a supporting member and attend our Art Nights and other events!  Sign up to follow the blog (button at the right) and it will send you a copy of each new post.  The posts will consist of the formal meeting minutes, announcements and summaries of our events!

First Meeting

Hi folks,
We are going to meet this Wednesday at 2:35 in the Sculpture room (AH 102).  If you are interested in attending please come or contact me with alternative meeting times.

The art faculty have requested that we move our meetings to Fridays, which sadly won’t work for me.  If there is any of you who would actually prefer to come in Fridays, let me know and I will see if I can get someone else to act as an advisor.  LW –  fccsculpt@gmail.com
